I am going to put photos of pelicans into this folder. I do love pelicans and I believe they need their own page.

I am always on the outlook for pelicans as they fascinate me.

The photos in this gallery were all taken while in Grand Marais which is part of Grand Beach. Most of the photos here were taken along the "back beach" which is now mostly eroded.
All of these were taken with my olympus sp 800 uz
on the weekend of August 21st and 22nd, 2010
Apparently, it was the smoke from the fires in BC that was making the fog in the background

these photos were all taken while on a pontoon boat driving down lake of the woods. A 1 hr tour for 2 of us was just $30 and it was great fun. We learned some facts about the lake and everything in our view. If you are ever in Kenora I suggest you take this ride. Its a smaller boat then the ms kenora but loads of fun and it travels the water faster then the ms kenora. all of the photos were taken with my olympus sp 800 uz and while the boat was moving.

I thought I would separate the photos from kenora 2006 and the ones I've taken now. I can see a big difference because I am more accomplished and of course a different camera. Both are olympus. These photos were all taken with my olympus sp 800 uz.

The International Peace Garden is a 3.65 sq. mi. (9.46 km²) park located on the international border between Canada and the United States, in the state of North Dakota and the province of Manitoba. Established on July 14, 1932, the park plants over 150,000 flowers each year. Main features of the garden include an 18-foot (5.5-m) floral clock display, fountains, a chime, and twin 120 foot (37 m) concrete towers straddling the border with a peace chapel at their base. The chapel walls are inscribed with notable quotes about peace.

The Arma Sifton bells is a chime of 14 bells cast by Gillett & Johnston bellfounders. The bells were a gift from Central United Church of Brandon, Manitoba, in 1972. The tower was supplied by North Dakota Veterans and dedicated in 1976. Some building remains of the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001 have been placed in part of the garden.

The Peace Garden hosts two youth camps every summer, the International Music Camp and the Legion Athletic Camp.

Located at the garden is the North American Game Warden Museum.

The state of North Dakota has as one of its nicknames The Peace Garden State, and places this motto on its license plates.

The park is located north of Dunseith, North Dakota at the northern terminus of US 281 in northwestern Rolette County, and adjacent to the southeast corner of Turtle Mountain Provincial Park in the Rural Municipality of Morton, south of Boissevain, Manitoba on MB 10. It is not necessary to go through customs to access the park, as the only access road is located on the international boundary between the American and Canadian customs stations. Visitors must pass through one of these customs stations after exiting the park.

from wikipedia:
Regina (pronounced /rɨˈdʒaɪnə/ - "ridge-eye-na") is the capital of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city is the second largest in the province (after Saskatoon), and is a cultural and commercial metropole for southern Saskatchewan. Its summer agricultural exhibition was originally established in 1884 as the Assiniboia Agricultural Association and since the mid-1960s has been styled "Buffalo Days".[1] It is governed by Regina City Council. Regina is the cathedral city of the Roman Catholic[2] and Romanian Orthodox[3] Dioceses of Regina and the Anglican Diocese of Qu'Appelle.[4] Citizens of Regina are referred to as Reginans. The city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Sherwood No. 159.

Regina was previously the headquarters of the North-West Territories, of which today's provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta originally formed part, and of the District of Assiniboia. Regina was named in 1882 after Queen Victoria, i.e. Victoria Regina, by her daughter Princess Louise, wife of the then-Governor General the Marquess of Lorne.

these photos were taken on july 17th, 2010.

Portage la Prairie (pronounced /ˈpɔrtɨdʒ lə ˈprɛəri/ in English) is a city in the Central Plains Region of Manitoba, Canada. As of 2006, the population was 12,728. The area of the city was 24.67 square kilometers (9.5 sq mi). It is located approximately 70 kilometres (45 miles) west of Winnipeg and sits on the Assiniboine River, which flooded the town persistently until a ditch north to Lake Manitoba (the Assiniboine River Floodway) was built to divert the flood waters.

The name is derived from the French word portage, which means to carry a canoe overland between waterways. In this case the "portage" was between the Assiniboine River and Lake Manitoba, over la prairie.

Portage is just over an hour from Winnipeg and I do like to visit there.
